- Nghe An Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital recently received a case of a 25-month-old child in severe condition, suspected of having bacteremia entering through the skin due to mosquito bites.

Through taking the patient's history, 6 days before admission, the patient was bitten by a mosquito in the right elbow area, itching and scratching the skin, the family bandaged it. After that, the child had a high fever, the mosquito bite was swollen and red, and the baby had a red rash on the face, vomiting, and a lot of fatigue.

When admitted to the hospital, the doctors at the emergency department did a clinical examination and determined that this was a suspected case of sepsis with the access route from cellulitis in the right elbow area.

Inpatient Dr. Tran Van Cuong added that bacteria secrete toxins that are harmful to the body, leading to foci of purulent inflammation in many organs such as the lungs (necrotizing pneumonia, empyema), the heart. (inflammation of the pericardium, inflammation of the heart chambers) or osteoarthritis (inflammation of the muscles of the muscles, inflammation of the bones causing bone necrosis), coagulopathy, damage to multiple organs and rapid death.

Sepsis can occur at any age, especially in immunocompromised children, infants and young children who are at higher risk, with rapid progression of the disease. This is considered one of the most dangerous and potentially life-threatening diseases, leaving many serious sequelae.

In order to prevent infection, doctors recommend that parents need to keep their children's body clean, and wear them loosely. Avoid sweating because this is a favorable condition for staphylococcus to develop and cause disease.

At the same time, children with acne, boils, parents should not arbitrarily prick, squeeze or use plasters and leaves to cover because it is easy to cause large-scale ulcers and blood infections; Cuts and scratches on the skin must always be kept clean until healed.

In case the child has a fever or skin lesions that are swollen, red, hot, and red, it is necessary to take the child to medical facilities for examination and treatment promptly. Absolutely do not arbitrarily use antibiotics to treat because the group of staph bacteria needs to be treated with a specific antibiotic group.
