Covid-19 cases increase rapidly, some show severe signs

  • In the first week of April, the whole country recorded 278 cases of Covid-19. However, by the second week this number had increased to 2,000. At the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, 21 cases showed severe signs.

Reported at the meeting on the afternoon of April 17, Prof. Dr. Phan Trong Lan, Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health), said that according to the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Omicron variant is circulated mainly in the world with some sub-variants such as BA.2.75, CH.1.1, BQ.1, XBB, XBB.1.16, XBB.1.9.1, XBB.1.5, XBF. Of which sub-variant XBB.1.5 has been detected in 95 countries.

The Omicron variant has been around for 16 months with over 500 different sub-variants. It currently circulates in most parts of the world and is dominant.

The results of gene sequencing monitoring showed that common sub-variants in the world were recorded in Vietnam.

In Vietnam, from the beginning of April until now, the number of cases tends to increase again.

Specifically, in the first 3 months of the year, the whole country recorded 2,070 Covid-19 cases, an average of 160 cases/week, the rate of severe disease/infection was 1.3%.

However, in the first week of April (from April 1 to April 7), the whole country recorded 278 cases, the rate of severe/infection was 1.4%. In the second week (April 8-14), this number increased to 2,000 cases, with a severe/infectious rate of 1.1%.

Regarding the treatment of Covid-19 patients, Deputy Director of the Medical Examination and Treatment Administration (Ministry of Health) Nguyen Trong Khoa said that the department is coordinating with experts to review Covid-19 treatment guidelines. . This week, the Professional Council is expected to meet to review and update the treatment guidelines in accordance with the new situation.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy Director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases (Hanoi) also said that in January, the hospital only received 20 cases for treatment, 21 cases in February, 45 cases in month. in the 3 weeks of April has increased much.

Specifically, the first week was 47 cases, the second week increased to 85 cases and updated to the afternoon of April 17, the hospital is treating 146 cases, with 21 cases showing serious signs.

According to Mr. Ha, most of these 21 patients are over 70 years old, most of them have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure, tuberculosis, HIV, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis... Covid-19 infection, only flu infection is also high risk.

The hospital has set up a hotline for professional advice and support for lower levels to stratify and transfer patients appropriately and avoid overloading the upper level.
