- Binh Phuoc Department of Health requested the Provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC) to act as the focal point to coordinate with other units to strengthen the close supervision of people entering the country. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for Marburg infectious disease.

The host of the Marburg virus is the African fruit bat, Rousettus aegyptiacus.

On March 23, the Department of Health of Binh Phuoc province said that it had just sent an official request to the provincial CDC and other units, localities and medical examination and treatment facilities in the area to strengthen supervision of Marburg disease prevention and control.

Marburg virus disease is a rare but serious hemorrhagic disease that affects both humans and primates, with a case fatality rate of up to 88%, according to the Ministry of Health.

Marburg is transmitted from person to person through direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs, or other body fluids of an infected person, and with surfaces and materials. (eg bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids. The incubation period varies from two to 21 days. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for Marburg infectious disease.

Therefore, the Binh Phuoc Department of Health requested the provincial CDC to act as the focal point to coordinate with other units to strengthen the close supervision of people entering the country; surveillance in the community and health facilities to detect suspected cases early for epidemiological investigation; in which, note those who enter from countries with epidemics in the African region within 21 days.

At the same time, coordinate with the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City to take samples for diagnostic testing; case management (if any) and prevent the disease from spreading to the community; fully implement personal protective measures for medical staff and people in contact with suspected cases.

The units strictly implement the communication and reporting between medical levels and facilities, especially when recording suspected cases; strengthen the propaganda of disease prevention and control measures to the people.

Binh Phuoc is a locality with more than 250 km of a common border with Cambodia, where there are many border gates, so disease prevention and control must be tightened and monitored regularly.

Previously, on March 21, the Ministry of Health asked the People's Committees of provinces and cities across the country, the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology, and the Pasteur Institute to actively strengthen supervision of Marburg disease prevention and control, to prevent the disease from spreading. into Vietnam.

According to the World Health Organization, at least nine people in Equatorial Guinea have now died from hemorrhagic fever caused by the Marburg virus.
