Latest epidemic situation in Ho Chi Minh City: 15 cases of monkeypox detected in one week

Last week, Ho Chi Minh City had 15 cases of monkeypox, bringing the number of monkeypox cases detected to 34. Other types of epidemics are also on the rise.

On October 22, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said it had a quick report on the situation and disease prevention activities in the area. According to this report, many types of epidemics continue to increase.


Hand, foot and mouth disease
Regarding the hand, foot and mouth disease epidemic, from the beginning of 2023 until now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 32,049 cases. Last week alone, the number of cases tended to increase with 1,715 cases recorded. Districts with a high number of cases per 100,000 people include: Binh Tan, Binh Chanh, and Nha Be District.

Currently, hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are treating 332 cases, of which 330 cases are under 6 years old (accounting for 99.3%).

The number of cases of severe hand, foot and mouth disease is 35 cases. Of these, 18 cases are being treated at Children's Hospital 1; 6 cases are being treated at Children's Hospital 2; 7 cases are being treated at City Children's Hospital; 4 cases are being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

According to statistics, 70% of pediatric hand, foot and mouth patients receiving inpatient treatment at 4 tertiary hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are transferred from the provinces.

According to a report from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, in the first 9 months of 2023, there were 23 deaths due to hand, foot and mouth disease in the southern region (Ho Chi Minh City has had no deaths).

Monkeypox epidemic
Last week, Ho Chi Minh City discovered 15 cases of monkeypox. Thus, up to this point, Ho Chi Minh City has a total of 34 confirmed cases of monkeypox.

There are currently 27 cases being isolated for treatment and their health is stable.

Dengue fever epidemic
Regarding the dengue fever epidemic, from the beginning of 2023 until now, Ho Chi Minh City has had 14,707 cases. In the past week alone, there were 465 cases, an increase of 11.2% compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks (418 cases). Districts with a high number of cases per 100,000 people include District 1, District 8, and Binh Thanh.

The number of cases being treated at the hospital is 205, of which 115 are adults (5 are pregnant women), and 90 are children.

The number of severe dengue fever cases is 11 cases, of which 3 cases are being treated at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, 1 case is being treated at the City Children's Hospital, 1 case is being treated at Children's Hospital 2 , 6 cases are being treated at Children's Hospital 1. There is 1 case on invasive ventilation.

According to a report from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, in the first 9 months of 2023, the southern region had 18 deaths due to dengue fever (1 case in Ho Chi Minh City).
